Hertfordshire County Council wants to hear your views on where 20mph speed limits may be appropriate in Bricket Wood.

Local feedback has suggested that lower speed limits may be appropriate in many parts of Bricket Wood; particularly around Mount Pleasant Lane, Ashridge Drive and Oakwood Road.

We are therefore seeking views on whether a 20mph speed limit would be appropriate on local roads and whether it could help support everyday journeys to destinations such as the railway station, schools, shops and community facilities. The proposal would also help connect key destinations including Bricket Wood Station, BRE and the National Cycle Network.

We are not proposing a 20mph speed limit on Park Street Lane. However, if the wider proposal is supported, we would introduce a Speed Reduction Zone with a 30mph speed limit between Bricket Wood and How Wood to provide a gradual transition into the village environment. We would also implement Speed Reduction Zones on the approaches from Drop Lane and Smug Oak Lane.

By completing the survey, your feedback will help us understand local priorities and inform the potential development of 20mph areas for Bricket Wood.

20mph Speed Limits aim to:

  • Improve road safety - Lower speeds reduce the likelihood and severity of collisions, helping protect all road users.
  • Encourage walking, cycling and stronger communities - Slower streets encourage walking, cycling and outdoor activity, creating healthier and more welcoming communities.
  • Reduce Traffic Noise - Lower speeds generate less noise creating calmer neighbourhoods.

The attached factsheet provides the evidence base for our 20mph programme approach.
