We are developing a new Local Transport Plan for Hertfordshire - and we would like your views on the first stage.
Transport affects all of us every day. Whether you walk, wheel, cycle, drive, or use public transport, your feedback will help us create a transport system that supports our communities, economy, and environment.
What is the Local Transport Plan?
The Local Transport Plan sets out our long-term vision for transport in Hertfordshire and aligns with Hertfordshire County Council’s wider vision for the county, available in the Corporate Plan. The Local Transport Plan will guide decisions on infrastructure, services, and policies to ensure our transport system is:
Safe – for everyone using it
Accessible – so people can get where they need to go
Sustainable – protecting our environment and supporting healthier travel choices
Our draft vision
Deliver a safe, accessible and sustainable transport system for our communities
Key themes
The above vision statement has three themes:
Safe
Our transport network is safe, secure, and promotes physical and mental wellbeing
Everyone feels safe when travelling
The harmful impacts of transport are as low as reasonably possible
Accessible
Transport is reliable, inclusive, and easy to use
Everyone can connect to their communities, employment and services
Transport supports our economy
Sustainable
People walk, cycle, wheel or use public transport for most local trips
The impact of transport on the environment should be as low as reasonably possible
Our transport system provides a network of green corridors for nature
Why do this engagement?
Engaging with residents, organisations and visitors helps ensure the Local Transport Plan reflects real needs and priorities across Hertfordshire.
Build trust and ownership – Involving people early helps build confidence and support for future changes.
Ensure relevance and inclusivity – We want to make sure the plan works for everyone, including those with mobility challenges.
Improve effectiveness – Local knowledge helps us understand what works and what doesn’t.
Align with community values – Your views help us balance safety, accessibility and sustainability.
Support decision-making – A shared vision helps guide future investment and policy choices.
