Welcome to our consultation on our plans to introduce a 20mph speed limit in Bedmond.

We are seeking your views on introducing a 20mph speed limit across most roads in Bedmond. Our aim is to create safer, calmer streets for residents, support children walking to school, and make it easier and safer for everyone to move around the area.

The proposal would apply to most residential streets.

This page sets out our proposals and gives you the chance to share your views. By completing the survey, you can help us design a scheme that works for your area.

Why are we proposing a 20mph limit?

Key reasons include:

  • Improved safety
Fewer collisions occur with slower speeds and a person hit at 30mph is five times more likely to be killed than at 20mph.

  • Healthier communities
Safer streets encouraging walking, cycling and outdoor activities.

  • Quieter streets
    Lower speeds reduce noise pollution.

  • Stronger neighbourhoods
Calmer roads make public spaces more sociable and welcoming while better supporting children, older people and those with mobility impairments.

  • Smoother journeys
Journey times typically take only seconds longer on local trips and traffic moves most smoothly at speeds around 18–20mph under real world conditions.

  • Protects pets and wildlife
Drivers have more time to stop and avoid animals.
